Text extract

The work of Danielle Gau summarises in a continually-changing palette the stations of an artistic life. The artist's tireless creativity bas its roots in emotional yearning, refected in a mirror of cultural and artistic traditions

.

During the artistic translation of the work in the studio ther occurs a liberation from the landscape through the intercession of abstraction and through the deployment of symbols. These symbols are used for the expression of hope, love and spiritual beliefs and also for fear and death.

The bulls and horses represented by  Danielle Gau as well as in ceramics, can be viewed as synonyms of this process. They stand as symbols of power and the struggle for personnal freedom. Many of her picture also are concerned with the subject of freedom which people are refused through political systems, trhough war and through walls and borders, or which  is denied, through loss of quality in daily life, through Jack of points of contact between people, and through anonymity in the modern world
